So here's the dealio... 31 yrs. ago the man of my dreams walked me down the stairwell at the MTC (Missionary Training Center...for you young 'uns!), turned around and asked me a very profound question, "What would you say if I asked you to marry me?" To which I responded, "I would probably say yes!" I went home that evening, told my mother what had just happened and then asked her, "Does that mean I'm engaged?" What followed was months of continued talk, announcements ordered, food selected, dress borrowed, Manti Temple Sealing, 5 children, 3...almost four new in-laws, 5 grandkids, and now an attempt to live the empty-nest life style! (With a whole lot of wonderful adventures and marvelous memories in between all those years!)
My hubby has hated that story and contends that that MTC stairwell question was in fact an official "Will You Marry Me" proposal. To which I contend it indeed WAS NOT! A couple of weeks ago it was suggested by Tanner to Ron that maybe I really would like a diamond ring and an official proposal. Ron gave it some thought and decided that after 31 yrs. of marital bliss that he would plan the sneakiest proposal for me and make it official with a ring and everything.
Our anniversary is August 12th and so we were planning a a little getaway to Chubbuck to the Mystique Dinner Theater. It was a wonderful dinner and the production was Cinderella. We were enjoying ourselves and the show and before we knew it, it was intermission. The Ugly Stepmother, the 2 ugly stepsisters and Lionel, the assistant to the prince got on stage and announced that they wanted to honor anyone with anniversary's or birthdays, to which we were escorted up on stage. After announcing that we had been married 31 yrs., Lionel says that the Anderson couple have another surprise. I turned to my right to look at Ron and he was down on one knee, holding open a ring box and proudly asks, "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"
I KNOW I gave a very funny look, I didn't have glasses on and so I couldn't really see what was in the box, and he whispers to me, "Now I don't want to ever hear that stupid story how I never proposed to you ever again!" The audience clapped and cheered and we were escorted to our seats...to which he hands me another ring box, I open it and it is a ring for HIM! He hates rings, lost his original wedding ring but whispered to me, "I will now recommit wearing a wedding ring."
IS THAT NOT THE CUTEST THING FOR A COUPLE IN THEIR 50's TO DO?
We had a wonderful anniversary celebration this year. Not because of the ring and proposal but because Ron thoughts and plans to make it happen! It has been 31 of the best years of my life and I look forward to our new adventure's together.
